Every year, the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival brings together the best mountain and adventure films from around the world. Nearly 400 productions are submitted annually, competing for a place in the festival’s official selection in Banff, Canada. The very best films then hit the road as part of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, reaching audiences through more than 1,000 screenings in over 40 countries.
Since 2013, Hungarian audiences have had the chance to experience this extraordinary collection of award-winning films on the big screen.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival Budapest is much more than a film screening—it’s a journey to the edge of the possible. In just a few hours, you’ll travel from the world’s highest mountains to the frozen Arctic, from remote jungles and wild oceans to some of the most spectacular rock walls on Earth. This year’s programme features nine remarkable films packed into an unforgettable three-hour cinematic experience. Beyond incredible athletic achievements, these films explore resilience, friendship, curiosity and our enduring connection with the natural world. They remind us that adventure isn’t just about reaching the summit—it’s about the people we meet, the risks we take and the stories we bring home.
Among this year’s highlights is Old Man Lightning, widely regarded as one of the most entertaining climbing documentaries ever made. Equal parts hilarious and deeply moving, it tells the story of John “Verm” Sherman, the legendary climber who helped shape modern bouldering culture.
Mandala delivers a spectacular mountain biking adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas.
Dissidence follows the inspiring journey of Indonesian twin brothers who rise from local climbing gyms in Jakarta to the highest level of competition climbing, overcoming every obstacle without sponsors or institutional support.
Climbing fans will witness one of the greatest achievements in modern alpinism: the first free ascent of the legendary Riders on the Storm route on the 1,300-metre East Face of Torre Central in Patagonia—an ascent climbers had pursued for more than three decades.
A Baffin Vacation – Love on Ice transforms an Arctic expedition into an unforgettable adventure, combining ski touring, sea kayaking and rock climbing across one of the planet’s most remote landscapes.
